Dans les environs de Luang Prabang, il y a une nature plutôt sauvage, et pas mal de villages. Alors on en a profité pour aller faire deux jours de balades dans cette zone, avec marche, baignade, kayak, balade en éléphant et hébergement dans un village. Sauf qu’au contraire des villages du nord de la Thaïlande, les villages que l’on a traversés cette fois l’acceptent librement. Et que rien que pour cela, et l’accès plus limité, ces treks d’écotourisme ont l’air beaucoup plus authentiques… On a même trouvé le moyen de s’incruster dans un village où il célébrait la fête nationale avant de se voir offrir à manger, à boire du lao lao (l’alcool de riz local, à boire en shoot) et à les écouter chanter et jouer de la guitare, entouré de tous les animaux possibles et imaginables. Autrement, pour le logement en village, c’est plutôt rustique, pas d’eau courante mais de grands bacs d’eau, pas d’électricité mais des générateurs entres 18 et 22h pour les choses importantes dans le village, c’est pas le confort occidental…

After Luang Prabang, we decided to go for a trek in the region for two days: we did trekking (obviously), but also some kayak, elephant riding and we had some time in different villages. Fortunately, compared to the villages we saw in northern Thailand, we chose an ecotourist tour, which basically means that villagers were volunteers to welcome foreigners, and were given a fair amount of money. Better for our social consciousness! It was very interesting, and I particularly liked the one we stopped in at the beginning of the first afternoon: in the middle of all the cattle possible, a village was celebrating the national day. We heard music, so we came closer, until they invited us to join them and offered us food and lao lao, the national alcohol. More alcohol than food actually, starting again was pretty tough. Otherwise, plenty of great experiences, such as sharing a place with Laotian, without running water and electricity, riding an elephant (even if it’s pretty uncomfortable), waking up to see people with AK-47 wandering around, and plenty of great images to remember.
